American comedian, television host, and writer Ellen DeGeneres, famous for hosting the talk show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (2003-2022), opens up about the talk show’s devastating end.
She breaks silence two years after the end of her long-running talk show in the wake of allegations of a toxic workplace.
Reflecting on the 2022 report detailing current and former employees’ claims that they faced fear, racism, and intimidation while working on the show, DeGeneres said the “be kind” girl wasn’t kind. She became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away.
In the report, several former employees and DeGeneres blamed executive producers for the “day-to-day” toxicity. Some employees claimed they were fired from the show after taking medical leave or bereavement days to attend funerals.
However, one of the employees revealed that DeGeneres dealt with racist comments, actions, and microaggressions. Following the report, DeGeneres stated that she experiences things that never should have happened on the show.
She also apologized to the people who were affected by the show’s toxicity. In 2020, executive producers Ed Glavin, Andy Lassner, and Mary Connelly were truly heartbroken after hearing about the claims.
The producers stated that airing 3000 episodes and employing over 1000 employees, they have tried to create an open and safe workspace. But they were sad to heard that some people still had a negative experience.
