Richard Serra, Master of Large-Scale Sculpture, Dies at 85

Richard Serra Sculptor Death

Richard Serra, an American artist known for his large-scale sculptures, passed away on Tuesday. His lawyer, John Silberman, confirmed that the artist died from pneumonia at his home in New York. Throughout his six-decade career, Serra left an indelible mark on postwar American art, whose monumental abstract sculptures transformed museums, public parks, and even entire landscapes. Primarily working with steel, he crafted evocative shapes and oxidized them to achieve a deep orange palette. His large-scale sculptures and site-specific creations encouraged viewers not just to observe but to explore, inviting new perspectives on space and form.
